Simple Machine, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides Squares on Apple’s App Store and Google Play. This policy explains how we handle information when you play Squares, interact with advertisements, or contact us.

Information we handle

Game data stored on your device. Squares stores information such as scores, progress, game settings, and privacy choices locally. Some gameplay information may also be included in analytics when you permit analytics collection. Device backups managed by Apple or Google may include locally stored app data, depending on your settings.

Gameplay and analytics information. With your permission, we use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how Squares is played. Information may include app interactions, tutorial progress, game starts and results, scores, play duration, revive offers, advertising events, and participation in gameplay experiments. Analytics services may also process app-instance identifiers, device and operating-system information, app version, language, and approximate region.

Crash and diagnostic information. With your permission, Firebase Crashlytics collects information about crashes and technical problems. This may include crash traces, diagnostic logs, installation identifiers, device information, operating-system version, and app version.

Configuration and experiments. Firebase Remote Config helps deliver game settings and test changes, such as how often a revive is offered. It uses installation identifiers to deliver configuration values. Where analytics and experiment participation are enabled, we may associate gameplay events with an assigned experiment group. Advertising information. Squares uses Unity LevelPlay and Unity Ads to provide optional rewarded advertisements and occasional advertisements between games. Depending on your permissions, platform settings, and applicable law, these services may process advertising identifiers, IP address, device information, approximate location inferred from IP address, and information about advertisements shown, watched, clicked, or completed. Information you provide. If you contact us for support or report a problem, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message, and attachments. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information.

Squares does not require you to create an account.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • Operate Squares and preserve local progress and preferences.

  • Understand gameplay and improve game balance and usability.

  • Diagnose crashes and resolve technical problems.

  • Deliver configuration changes and evaluate gameplay experiments.

  • Display advertisements, verify earned advertising rewards, and measure advertising performance.

  • Respond to support requests, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.

We do not use gameplay experiment assignments to make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you.

Consent and privacy choices

Optional analytics, crash reporting, and advertising services are controlled through the privacy choices presented in Squares. Where consent is required, we request it before the relevant collection or processing begins.

You can review and change your choices through the settings on your device. Withdrawing consent stops future processing that depends on that consent; it does not automatically erase information already collected.

On iOS, we request Apple’s App Tracking Transparency permission before tracking that requires that permission. You can change this permission in your device’s Settings.

On Android, you can manage advertising privacy and advertising identifier controls through your device’s Settings. Available controls vary by Android version.

Choosing to watch a rewarded advertisement is separate from consenting to personalized advertising. Declining personalized advertising does not necessarily remove advertisements; contextual advertisements may still require certain device and network information.

How we share information

We share relevant information with:

  • Google, for Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config, and Google Cloud BigQuery reporting.

  • Unity and its advertising partners, to deliver and measure advertisements and prevent advertising fraud.

  • Service providers assisting with support, security, or other necessary operations, where engaged.

  • Authorities or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, or investigate abuse.

  • A successor organization if our business or Squares is acquired or reorganized, subject to applicable privacy protections.

Advertising providers may process information for their own purposes as described in their privacy policies.

We do not sell personal information for money. Certain advertising disclosures may qualify as “sharing,” “sale,” or targeted advertising under some privacy laws. Where those laws apply, you may exercise applicable opt-out rights.

Storage, security, and retention

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect information. No storage or transmission method is completely secure.

Information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on legally recognized safeguards for international transfers.

We retain information only as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, including legal, security, and dispute-resolution obligations.

  • Local game data: remains on your device until removed through available app or operating-system controls. Backup copies may remain under your backup settings.

  • Analytics data: [confirmed retention period].

Service-provider deletion processes and backup schedules may delay complete removal. Information that has been irreversibly anonymized may be retained for statistical purposes.

Your privacy rights and deletion requests

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; restrict or object to processing; withdraw consent; or opt out of certain advertising uses.

Contact support@simplemachine.co to make a request. Because Squares does not require an account, we may need limited additional information to locate relevant records and verify your request. We will explain if we cannot reliably identify information associated with you.

Deleting Squares does not automatically delete information previously transmitted to service providers. Contact us to request deletion of identifiable information we control.

Where applicable, you may also complain to your local data-protection authority or appeal a privacy-request decision by contacting us.

For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we rely on consent for optional processing that requires it, legitimate interests for proportionate support and security activities, and legal obligations where applicable.

Children’s privacy

Squares is a general-audience puzzle game. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in circumstances requiring parental consent without obtaining that consent.

If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, contact support@simplemachine.co so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Store reviews

Squares may invite you to leave a review through Apple’s or Google Play’s native review interface. Those platforms handle your review submission under their own policies. Squares records local review-request attempts; a request does not tell us whether you submitted a rating or review.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Squares changes. We will revise the effective date and provide additional notice or request renewed consent where required.
